Nature and Grilled Cheese

Think I found my new favourite place. Its random and unless someone had told you it was there you would never know.

We had to ask several people for directions, including one super friendly guy who was grateful we were not trying to take the dogs into a night/day club (Kater Blau if your‘e interested) . But nestled between some amazing art work and random buildings is a little slice of heaven. Der Holzmarkt 25 is a cooperative neighbourhood on the Spree. The “Wood Market” regularly has exhibitions, art, food, kids playground and music.

The minute I walked through the entrance I was greeted with colour, delicious smells and an eclectic array of cafes and bars. We followed the path past the band that were setting up for the day and found what we were looking for, Die Backpfiefe, such a cute little bakery nestled amongst the trees, offering cinnamon and apple schnecke, fresh bread, rolls, brownies and grilled cheese! Oh yes they know how to win my heart. I love grilled cheese.

We ordered and immediately felt at ease as the owner brought out some water for the dogs and said we can also take a look inside the bakery, which was charming and rustic and oh the smell of fresh baked bread!

There is loads of wooded seating amongst the trees in a staggered system down to the riverside. Luckily we were there early and able to sit in peace, apart from the friendly sparrows trying to steal our hot cheesy treats. To take twenty minutes and watch the boats go by, see the Herons coming into land and even a Cormorant fly by was perfect. I love nature, I miss living in the country but today was exactly what I needed to refill my nature cup.

Such a sensation of being on holiday in my own city. I highly recommend going early for opening times. 10.30, its so quiet and seriously try the grilled cheese.

Thanks so much Die Backpfeife
